Leaders and their followers are increasingly searching for meaning in the workplace. Many would argue that there is a widening gulf between what people want from their leaders, and what traditional modes of leadership succession and management development deliver. We need something different. Rather than add to the plethora of authoritativeadvice about how one should lead, I am trying to provide, in this book, a simple guiding light in the form of a way of seeing leadership. I suggest that leadership is like poetry. Poetic leadership is not about speaking in verse, but about a way of thinking and communicating that is beautiful, intelligent, complex, subtle, figurative, and questioning. In a way, I have tried to write the leadership book that I craved years ago when I was starting out.
